Community Agreement
Endazhi-Onjii-Anishinaabewiyang exists to protect and uphold our people, our treaty rights, our lands, our waters, and our future generations. We are an Indigenous-led nonprofit grounded in relationship, responsibility, and accountability to the community. This Community Agreement reflects how we choose to create and hold space together.
We seek a space that is respectful, open, honest, and free from harm. This agreement is not about control or punishment. It is a shared commitment to move in good ways, especially when emotions are strong, perspectives differ, and accountability is required.
Our foundation is rooted in the Seven Teachings. We strive to lead with love, grounded in care for our people and those yet to come. We act with respect for one another’s voices, boundaries, and lived experiences. We carry truth and honesty in how we speak, organize, and share information. We practice humility, knowing none of us hold all knowledge. We move with wisdom, seeking context and understanding before action. We show bravery by naming harm, challenging systems, and standing firm in our responsibilities.
We understand that disagreement and conflict are part of any shared space. When conflict arises, we commit to addressing concerns directly, listening to understand, and seeking repair rather than blame. Accountability in this space is relational. We take responsibility for our impact, even when harm is unintentional, and we work to make things right. Harassment, intimidation, bullying, and personal attacks have no place in this space.
Because EOA holds responsibility to the community, we are intentional with how we show up. We commit to being informed, accurate, and transparent. We distinguish between lived experience, opinion, and verified information, and we correct misinformation when it occurs. We do not misuse our platform or speak beyond our knowledge or role.
EOA affirms Indigenous sovereignty and self-determination. We do not claim to speak for all Indigenous people or all tribal citizens. We speak from our responsibilities, our experiences, and our collective agreements. We may share space with non-Indigenous allies and organizations when it aligns with our mission, while ensuring Indigenous leadership, cultural integrity, and community safety remain central.
This is a living agreement. As our space grows and our relationships deepen, this agreement may be revisited and strengthened together. Its purpose is to protect our relationships, guide how we move together, and remain accountable to the people we serve.
By engaging with Endazhi-Onjii-Anishinaabewiyang, we commit to walking with good hearts, right intentions, and shared responsibility — for the people, by the people.
